Rust stain removal from block paving
The Project
We were instructed by Imperial College, London to remove rust staining that had dripped from the Antony Gormley sculpture "Alert". We provided a detailed RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement) which took into account that the general public would be in the area of the works and that we would take care not to cause any damage to the sculpture.
Method
Because the paving beneath the sculpture is cement based and, therefore, acid sensitive we used an alkaline rust removing product Lantania Gel Rust. You will see that the product turns a very deep violet colour whilst it is working but this is easily rinsed and removed with a wet vacuum cleaner.
Results
The rust staining was successfully removed from the cement based, block paving without issues for the public or the sculpture.
